We recently had the opportunity to interview Tony to learn more about his business and his military background. Enjoy his Q&A!

What inspired you to open your own JDog Junk Removal franchise in Tampa?

I had planned to move to the Tampa area in 2019. I bought a place and was still living in Washington working for a drone company that supplies ISR services to the military. I wanted to get out on my own and start a business. JDog Brands proved to be the best Veteran-owned business opportunity.

With its mission to lower Veteran unemployment to below 1%, I knew it would be a great fit.

What lesson(s) from your time in the military have you applied to your life as a business owner?

Being a Marine taught me that taking care of your people allows them to take care of their work. No one goes into anything alone in the military and the same holds true for business.

Teamwork builds successful companies. To achieve a mission, the military taught me that it takes a team, watching each other’s backs while doing their individual best.

I ensure that we hire team members and thoroughly train them so they can offer their best efforts.

What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in your career?

The military produces individuals with uncanny adaptive thinking and a capacity and passion for continuing to learn. This learning environment focuses on personal and professional development for team members. This acts as a force multiplier when a Veteran is added to the staff. He or she ensures that the whole is performing well rather than focusing on the individual.

This unwavering commitment to a greater cause becomes an ingrained ethos that can improve the work habits of the entire team.

When you’re not working, what do you enjoy doing?

The main reason for moving to Tampa is that we have a grandson here! We also love being on the water and fishing.
