King of the Coop to Open Third Location This Year

Great news for our beach dwelling neighbors! Seminoles Heights and Wesley Chapel’s beloved restaurant concept, King of the Coop is opening its third location in St.Petersburg in late November or early December of 2021. The restaurant will be located in the old Westshore Pizza spot in the Tyrone shopping plaza at 6928 22nd Ave N.

According to the King of the Coop website, the brand is the first Nashville Hot Chicken restaurant in the Tampa Bay Area, offering gluten-friendly hot chicken, fish and delicious fan-favorite side items. Since being established in Tampa, the brand has exploded, finding local fame and winning Creative Loafing’s Best of the Bay awards for “Best Chicken” in both 2019 and 2020.

Besides the recently announced St.Petersburg location, King of the Coop is dreaming about future locations in SoHo, Westchase and Ybor City. No official opening dates have been announced.

Joe Dodd, owner of King of the Coop, exploded on the Tampa scene back in 2016 when he first got started with a food truck called “Taste Buddz.” After only a year of operating the food truck, Joe and his team made the transition to brick and mortar with Soul Food Street Kitchen, a concept that was located in Armature Works. Dodd later transitioned to his space in Seminole heights, where he opened King of the Coop in 2019.

We cannot wait to watch this brand continue to explode in the Bay Area, and maybe even beyond. Keep up with King of the Coop on Instagram for upcoming grand opening announcements.
