The latest creation from Sarasota-based alternative visual artist Alexis Fraser, a.k.a. Lipstick Lex, is now up for auction. All proceeds from “Betty White,” a portrait made entirely of lipstick, will benefit the Humane Society of Tampa Bay.
Television icon Betty White died after stroke complications on New Year’s Eve, just 18 days shy of her centennial birthday. White was well-known as a staunch champion for animals and animal rights.
“It was by our Golden Girl’s request to honor her legacy by donating to a local animal shelter,” Fraser wrote in an Instagram post.
The Betty White Challenge, a social media-driven campaign encouraging donations to animal charities on White’s 100th birthday (January 17), was a huge success. It’s been reported that the campaign raised an estimated $600,000 (and counting!) for various animal rights organizations.
Fraser’s goal is to add to that growing total by auctioning her one-of-a-kind piece. Bidding for “Betty White” starts at $750. The auction ends Monday, January 24 at noon EST.
