In 2019, writer and philanthropist, MacKenzie Scott, made a pledge to give away most of her wealth following her divorce from Jeff Bezos, the founder and executive chairman of Amazon.
Since then, MacKenzie Scott has donated an estimated $12 billion to over 1,200 nonprofit organizations.
Recently, she made a $436 million donation to Habitat for Humanity International and its 84 U.S. affiliates.
Her generosity hit close to home as the Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas & West Pasco Counties received $11 million.
This donation is the single largest gift in the nonprofit’s 37-year history.
Mike Sutton, the CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas & West Pasco Counties said Scott’s donation is “transformative.”
Over the next five years, the organization plans to use this donation to continue to build affordable homes in the Tampa Bay area.
